The answer is that we shave, or ‘reshape’ very little of your tooth. Unlike other dental treatments, such as crowns, we only need to remove a very small layer of your tooth enamel to fit a veneer – usually around 0.3 and 0.5mm.

How Much We Reshape Your Teeth for Veneers
If you’ve looked at our gorgeous before and after smile transformations, you’ll know that dental veneers give a stunning finish to your smile. But before you go ahead with veneers, you probably want to understand how much we reshape your tooth to fit your veneer.
How much we reshape your teeth for veneers will depend on:
- the type of material you choose for your veneer,
- the skill of the Dentist.

In general, we remove 0.3 – 0.5mm of tooth enamel to fit your veneer.
With a porcelain veneer, we may remove a tiny bit more off your teeth than with other materials. Porcelain is an extremely fine material and is similar to the look and feel of a false nail. It’s the glass slipper of the veneer world and gives a delicate, flawless finish that perfectly matches the shade of your teeth. This is the gold class of veneers and will last longer than other materials.
Composite veneers are more friendly to the budget, look great but aren’t quite as hard-wearing as porcelain. In some cases, we can fit a composite veneer without reshaping your tooth at all, otherwise you can expect between 0.3 and 0.5mm of your tooth to be removed.

What Happens to Your Teeth When You Have Veneers?
Here’s the process that you can expect when you have veneers at Dentélle in Warragul.
1. Check. First we need to check if your teeth and gums are strong enough to take veneers. Dental veneers are a cosmetic treatment and can’t be used to cover gum disease, cavities or decay. We’re looking for super-strong healthy teeth only! Our Dental team will book you in for thorough consultation before any treatment starts.
2. Design + Create. Our experienced team sit with you to discuss your smile goals and the look you want to achieve. We then work closely with our Master Ceramicist to custom-design your smile. We go to great lengths to create the exact shape and shade for your smile and avoid veneers that look too white, too bulky or too ‘WHOA’. We create tailored veneers that give you natural perfection.
3. The Fitting. Once your veneer is ready, we bond it onto your tooth using a strong adhesive resin which will last for years to come.
Once your veneer or veneers have been fixed, you’re free to go home and eat, chew and smile to your heart’s content!
Can You Go back to Your Natural Teeth After Veneers?
No, dental veneers require your teeth enamel to be reshaped so they’re considered an irreversible cosmetic treatment. That means you won’t be able to go back to your natural teeth after veneers.
Veneers are very hard-wearing however, and you can expect them to last for up to 10-15 years. A skilled Dentist will be able to replace your veneers when they need updating
